Sattes und doch elegantes Bouquet mit reifer roter Frucht, feiner Beerigkeit und mit Luft floralen und ätherischen Noten: Rote Wildkirschen, Cassis, rauchige Anklänge, ganz feine Röstaromatik, wechseln sich mit Haiti-Vanilleschote und rosa Blüten ab. Am Gaumen punktet er mit saftiger Prägnanz, enormem Zug und Frische. Noch blutjung mit noch nicht ganz geöffneten Verästelungen, zeigt aber jetzt schon eine enorme Präsenz, Griffigkeit und Feinheit. Das Finessenstück wird von feinsten Säureadern und geschliffenem Tannin fest zusammengehalten. Ein fast schon kühl anmutender Maremma Grand Cru, den ich zwischen dem grandiosen 2016er und 2019er ansiedle. Bravo!

The 2017 Monteverro, sampled during a vertical tasting of 2008-2021 vintages in August 2024, has an almost pomelo citrus-like appeal, imbuing it with natural freshness while gaining intensity on the palate. Granular tannins have tremendous grip through the vibrant finish.

A dense, rich red with loads of blackberries, black licorice, sage and blueberries. Some slate, too. It’s full-bodied with rich yet polished and integrated tannins. Flavorful finish. Dried meat and bacon with some smokiness at the end.

This is the headline wine from Monteverro. The 2017 Monteverro is Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot with a more important oak regime (in terms of time and types of barrel) compared to the more accessible Terra di Monteverro. This wine is fully concentrated and very rich. It's almost too much of a good thing with dark fruit layers, spice and savory tobacco. It's definitely bold and is a lot to take in.
