Tinata 2019, Decanter
The 2019 vintage began with a cold spring. Temperatures picked up in July, and the season was even-keeled with no heat spikes or rain. The 2019 is a masterful creation with Bordelais elegance and brightness of character, underscored by zesty acidity and framed by powerful, elongated tannins that have real staying power. The wine shows a deep ruby colour and leads with explosive blue fruit and black cherry aromatics with elegant cedarwood and garrigue notes. Nuances of white pepper, charcuterie, blood orange, and sanguine minerality with rose petals on the long finish. One to cellar and enjoy for the next four or five decades.
Monteverro 2020, Decanter
The aromatics of the 2020 lead with black liquorice, charcuterie, violets, conifer, and wet river stone with leather and brown spices. Full-bodied with citrusy acidity and bold, powerful tannins. Long and layered.
Monteverro 2018, Decanter
The 2018 Monteverro is faring better than the winery's 2018 Tinata label, and despite the challenging vintage, the wine is compact, expressive, and bears an elegance factor that is hard to deny. The tannins are a bit angular, chalky, and mocha-tinged, but there's a zesty freshness in its flamed grapefruit peel, bay leaf, and damson plum notes that linger with marionberry and pomegranate freshness.
Monteverro 2017, Decanter
The 2017 Monteverro, sampled during a vertical tasting of 2008-2021 vintages in August 2024, has an almost pomelo citrus-like appeal, imbuing it with natural freshness while gaining intensity on the palate. Granular tannins have tremendous grip through the vibrant finish.
Monteverro 2016, Decanter
Sampled during a vertical tasting of 2008-2021 vintages in August 2024. Dark ruby colour. It is an incredibly robust and textural wine with tons of grip and freshness brought on by stone fruit notes of peach pit, plums, and a freshness of white pepper and mocha. Densley-packed fine-grained tannins imbue this wine with serious weight, while that stone fruit and acid grip help keep everything light, fresh, and almost airy. The finish is exceedingly long, with saline minerals and a real high-toned spicy jalapeño note.
Monteverro 2015, Decanter
Sampled during a vertical tasting of 2008-2021 vintages in August 2024. The 2015 is a nicely made wine, very tight and needs time to soften. The tannins are incredibly compact, and the fruit quality is more in the red fruit spectrum with a saline mineral finish.
Monteverro 2014, Decanter
The 2014 vintage is leaner, with more apple skin tannins, lavender, black cherry, and bay laurel notes.
Monteverro 2013, Decanter
The 2013 Monteverro shows a very creamy rendition of this wine with almost lactic qualities in its creamy black cherry, strawberry yoghurt, and peach pit notes. It is full-bodied with grippy, angular tannins and good tension that propels the creaminess of the wine toward a more pointed character with a long, wild herb finish.
