The 2008 release, the first-ever vintage produced, is stunning as I taste it in early August 2024. The “Macchia” wild herb quality of the region is immediately apparent, so precise and focused. From the wine’s deep ruby colour comes plenty of primary fruit with secondary and tertiary nuances, led with dried bing cherry, spiced plums, tobacco, cedar, bacon fat, and white pepper with a pop of bright capsicum. Full-bodied with granular tannins that are like fine sand on the palate, enriched with robes of silken currant and cassis fruits, layered with the same aromatic spices and finishing exceptionally long and so satisfying. Utterly delicious, with a striking freshness factor.
