The 2008 release, the first-ever vintage produced, is stunning as I taste it in early August 2024. The "Macchia" wild herb quality of the region is immediately apparent, so precise and focused. From the wine's deep ruby colour comes plenty of primary fruit with secondary and tertiary nuances, led with dried bing cherry, spiced plums, tobacco, cedar, bacon fat, and white pepper with a pop of bright capsicum. Full-bodied with granular tannins that are like fine sand on the palate, enriched with robes of silken currant and cassis fruits, layered with the same aromatic spices and finishing exceptionally long and so satisfying. Utterly delicious, with a striking freshness factor.

Sattes, dichtes Rubin-Violett, zeigt überhaupt keinen Alterungston. Spannende und vielschichtige Nase, zeigt Noten von dunklen Johannisbeeren, Brombeeren, unterlegt von feinen Gewürzen, verwoben und vielschichtig. Dicht und präzise am Gaumen, öffnet sich mit viel feinkörnigem, sattem Tannin, baut sich lange auf, spannt einen weiten Bogen, viel dunkle Beerenfrucht, im Finale satter Druck, wirkt heute noch so präsent wie vor sechs Jahren, sehr langer Nachhall mit süßem Schmelz.

Das war jetzt mein siebter Monteverro (…), konstant mit 95/100, große, seriöse Weinmacherkunst, aber trotzdem ein Wein, der immensen Spaß macht (...). Ich habe langsam das Gefühl, dass die 95/100, mit denen ich diesen, inzwischen gut 20mal getrunkenen Wein kontinuierlich bewerte, vielleicht sogar etwas geizig sind. Und der Rest der Runde, die den Monteverro zum ersten Mal im Glas hatten, kamen aus dem Staunen nicht mehr raus.

The 2008 Monteverro is a superb wine from the Tuscan coast. Dark wild cherries, sweet herbs, mocha, espresso and spices are some of the notes that flow from this beautifully balanced, large-scaled red. This shows marvelous depth and nuance, not to mention exceptional harmony. Monteverro is Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot that spent 18 months in French oak. This is an impressive debut. Ideally the wine needs another year or two for the French oak to settle down. Monteverro is one of the most exciting young properties I have come across in a while.
